Rest
When we first moved to our new city in September, we spent two months sleeping on a low-quality hotel bed. We spent over two more months sleeping on a four-year-old well-loved futon. Now, we are finally getting a good night's sleep thanks to this:

Completed: Mix It Up Coasters
I've been meaning to post these for some time now, so here they are:
my first attempt at hand-quilting--I could use a little practice
my first attempt at hand-quilting--I could use a little practice
These are the Mix-It-Up Coasters from this book.
They were a fun, quick project--I say quick, although I actually started them in September and finished them yesterday. This was completely procrastination though--they could easily be done in a day. Since I had never tried quilting before, I decided to machine-quilt three of them and do the other three by hand. So I zipped through the machine ones and put the other three off until now because I thought I would screw them up so badly (and because they were functional without the quilting, hehe). In the end though, I prefer the ones I did by hand. Who knew?
I really like them though, and I think they would make a good quick gift.

!!! We here at the wif household are very excited*.
*For all of you snorting coffee/espresso enthusiasts out there: yes yes, we know it's not real espresso, it's not real cappucino, etc. etc. Fortunately for me, I have such an unrefined palate I can't even tell!! Hahaha!

Weekending
Early in the week M was able to procure two tickets to Saturday's UNC-Georgia Tech game. We made a day of it and arrived in Chapel Hill around 2:30 (the game started at 9). One of M's major goals was to pick up some Tarheel gear, which he did (as did I)--the final count was, including everything:
Those UNC fans take their Tarheels seriously. I don't think I've ever seen so much team spirit. The whole walk up to the Dome (maybe a quarter mile?) was lined with people trying to buy tickets from everybody else walking up to the game.
The Dome was quite nice. Our seats were up near the top.
The game ended up being pretty good, even though UNC beat Tech by a good margin.
The campus is quite large; we definitely got our workout for the day. I'm slightly ashamed to say my feet are still sore, hehe.
Here is a shot of the Chi Phi frat house:
I'd like to take a picture of my completed mitten, but there is so little sun here I'm afraid it wouldn't turn out. I'll play around with it and get back to you.
- One hoodie
- Three t-shirts
- Two Rameses car decals
- One stuffed basketball
- Two temporary tattoo heels (for the game)
- One heel mug
- One vintage UNC flag

WIP Update
In an effort to post more often, I'm taking (some) of the burden off of myself to always include a picture (I know, I know--I hate posts without pictures as much as the next guy). Not to mention, I have the hardest time getting good pictures. I don't like to use a flash, but the light in here is not very good and the pics keep coming out blurry. Does anyone know if there's some way to avoid this? I tend to assume I'm just doing something wrong, but maybe not.
In knitting news, I have completed one Squirrelly Swedish Mitten and am ready to move on to mitten #2.
In quilting news, I have been longing for some time (since receiving this really), to make an awesome quilt, a la Denyse Schmidt. Today I bought some Kona cotton to play with for inspiration and quilting practice. So hopefully I'm going to get that ball rolling here shortly.
Until next time.

Holiday
We had a fun three-day weekend. On Monday we spent the whole day inside. We opened the windows, and the air was just chilly enough to necessitate blankets. We ended up watching all of Pride & Prejudice, bundled up together on the couch.

Here is a picture to distract you:

- Squirrelly Swedish Mittens
- Punk Rock Backpack (or should I just give up on this one after a year and a half...)
- Shark
